IPID, the payment intelligence company that helps institutions know who they are paying, has raised a US$16 million Series A led by Foundation Capital, with participation from strategic investors Citi and HSBC.Existing investors QED Investors, Monk's Hill Ventures and Quona Capital also took part. 1982 Ventures is one of the earliest backers of IPID.

‍

"Payments are moving in real time and are increasingly initiated by software and AI agents, yet the checks that happen before money moves have not caught up. IPID built that verification layer market by market, outside of any bank consortium, which is very hard to replicate. We look forward to supporting the team as they expand into the US and digital assets," said Scott Krivokopich, Founding Managing Partner at 1982 Ventures.

‍

Payments have become faster, but the information needed to assess them has not kept pace. Institutions often do not know who is on the receiving end of a payment before it is sent, and the burden of confirming the recipient falls on the sender. LSEG projects that Authorized Push Payment fraud alone will cause US$331 billion in global losses by 2027.

‍

“Every payment starts with a decision, but institutions are often making that decision with incomplete information,” said Damien Dugauquier, co-founder and CEO of IPID. “We started by solving bank account verification globally. We are now building the broader decision intelligence that institutions need before funds move - across countries, payment rails and forms of value. The future of payments will not be defined simply by moving money faster. It will be defined by making better decisions before money moves.”

‍

"As one of the earliest backers of IPID, we have always had conviction that Damien and his team were building something the global payments industry needed. We have seen the company grow from a Singapore startup into infrastructure used by global banks in more than 50 countries. Having Foundation Capital, Citi and HSBC come in confirms that, and we are excited for what comes next," said Herston Powers, Founding Managing Partner at 1982 Ventures.

‍

The company has said the funding will be used to deepen its global payment intelligence network, accelerate growth in the United States and Europe, and build new capabilities across US payment rails, stablecoins and digital assets.
